Portland Orff-Schulwerk Levels at Columbia Valley – Cancelled for 2020

Levels at Columbia Valley, in association with the Portland Orff Schulwerk Association and AOSA, was established in 2018 and continues to expand through the participation of passionate educators in the Portland Metro Area and beyond. Continue to check here for updates on POSA’s upcoming summer coursework.

Are you interested in expanding your skills as an educator but are worried about this course being cost-prohibitive? Consider applying for our Merlin Day Musselman Memorial Scholarship, founded especially to defray expenses for teachers seeking Levels training.

Releasing creativity that extends far beyond the music classroom, Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman conceived an approach to building musicianship in every learner through the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama. While this course is specifically geared towards music teachers serving early to middle childhood classroom music, the Orff-Schulwerk process is limitless in its applications beyond the Music Room. Administrators, classroom teachers, early-chilhood professionals, and anyone else looking to deepen their skillset of unlocking creative potential are welcome to join. While a background in music is helpful, it is not required or necessary to benefit from the course.

The Portland Orff Teacher Education Course is an intensive 10 day graduate-level professional development course.  As an approved American Orff Schulwerk Association course, we adhere to AOSA guidelines for prompt attendance and completion of assignments. Expect nightly homework and recorder practice, to engage fully with movement during the day, and to have a wonderfully fulfilling and joyful experience!
*If you will be commuting daily to the course, please share with your family that you will need time and space for assignments and practice, and should limit other responsibilities for the duration of the course.

Columbia Valley Elementary is a part of our host organization, Evergreen Public Schools, and is located just northeast of Portland in a beautiful tech center in east Vancouver. It is adjacent to a park with walking paths, is close to a myriad of restaurants and hotels, and has a wonderful music room, lots of free parking, and is an easy reverse commute from Portland.

Class will run Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30 daily.

Please arrive by 8:00am the first day for check-in and registration.

Participants will have a one hour lunch break. Most people bring their own lunch, but there are many wonderful restaurants close by if you want to buy lunch. Please wear comfortable, supportive shoes, loose clothing that allows freedom of movement, and abstain from wearing fragrances of any kind.

Registration for the Portland Orff Levels begins in February. You can register by making your deposit through our website. You will be invoiced after your deposit is submitted for the remaining tuition balance. We can also invoice your school for the entire amount if you contact us.”

If you are interested in taking Level III, please email us for approval. Include where and what year you took your levels I and II. Once approved, you will be invoiced. Please visit here to send your request for Level 3 approval.

Should you need to withdraw, your deposit is fully refundable before June 26th. You get half your deposit back before July 10th. (No refunds After July 10th).
